Advanced English 10 Summer Assignment

Advanced English 10

Students must complete an in depth reading of the following works of literature before the first day of school:

As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner

Take notes as you read.  If you buy copies of the books, highlight and write marginal notes.  This will help you review quickly and efficiently when you need to. Reading response journals may be substituted for the highlighting and annotation for both novels if you choose or if you read library copies.  If you decide to use the journal, draw a vertical line down the center of each page. On the left-hand side, copy significant quotations which express character development or a theme of the work, for example. On the right-hand side, explain why you think this quotation significant.  There are no maximum or minimum requirements; use good judgment. All notes made during reading will be allowed in class for assignment and testing purposes.

The summer may seem long and limitless in June, but August will be here before you know it.  Set a schedule for yourself and stick with it. Don’t wait until the last few days to read these books.

Have fun!
