New Bag Regulations for Games at ASU Stadium

Hornet Fans and Guest,
In order to provide a safer environment for fans and guests attending our events, Alabama State University is instituting a new clear bag regulation for all of its venues starting with the 2016 football season. The bag regulation mirrors the one implemented by the NFL a few years ago, and should be familiar to those of you that attended.
The regulation limits the size and type of bags that may be brought into our venues. The following is a list of bags that will be accepted for entry:
 Bags that are clear plastic or vinyl and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12”
 One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziploc bag or similar)
 Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, after being searched
 Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection
Prohibited items include but are not limited to:
 Purses larger than a clutch
 Briefcases
 Backpacks
 Fanny packs
 Diaper bags
 Cinch bags
 Luggage of any kind
 Long golf umbrellas
 Cooler bags
 Computer bags
 approved seat cushions including large traditional seat cushions that have pockets, zippers, compartments or covers
 Any bag larger than Camera bags
 Non-the permissible size, unless credentialed personnel carrying such belonging have been thoroughly searched
In conjunction with the clear bag regulation, we are implementing a new entry procedure for all events here on the ASU campus. We’ll be reinforcing the entry points into Hornet Stadium, while enhancing the pre-entry search of all entering the stadium and arena. All patrons are subject to being searched by law enforcement. In addition, patrons will be directed to entrances where staffing and resources will be coordinated.
While there is no credible threat to the University, one major piece of our jobs is to stay vigilant and protect and serve the students, staff and patrons that comprise the University community. We follow the threat levels established by the federal government’s Homeland Security Advisory System. The change in bag regulation, controlled entrances and enhanced search were necessary. Additional staffing and resources will be deployed to mitigate any concerns.
We encourage fans and guests to come early and be patient as they enter the venue. While this may seem inconvenient to some, your safety and security is our highest priority. As a department, we work with ASU Public Safety, who regularly collaborates with local, state and federal authorities, to evaluate our security operations and flex plans accordingly. At this time, we have made the changes outlined above to ensure our events are conducted in the safest possible manner.
We appreciate your cooperation with both the clear bag regulation and the entry procedure for all events.
